When the summer comes and the temperatures sore the kids love to play outside and water is the one thing that they love to play with, be it water pistols, water balloons or paddling pools. However one thing that will go down a treat is a homemade water slide for them to enjoy.

All you need is a simple camping tarp, hose pipe and a cheap bottle of shampoo or washing up liquid.

Making your own garden Water slide

How to make a cheap do it yourself garden water slide for kids and adults to enjoy in the summer in your back yard.

Things you need:

  • Water slide tarp or plastic sheeting
  • Hose Pipe
  • Washing up liquid

The tarp can be any size and really depends on the space you have in the garden. The longer the better, the Wahii WaterSlide 75 -is the World’s Biggest Backyard Lawn Water Slide! At 75 feet long this makes one great water slide!

  1. Roll out the tarp, be it a bought one for a water slide, or a campaign tarp from a hardware store, just roll it out to the maximum length or to how much space you have. Make sure you have a run off area at the end and ensure there is no danger is someone does go off the end, such as a large tree, brick wall, fence etc.
  2. Get your hose pipe out and turn it on, give the plastic sheeting a good drenching and then place it at the top of the water slide. You could leave it on the ground with the water spraying down the water slide, or better still, stretch your clothing line over the top end of the water slide, hang the hose pipe over this and point it down the slide too.
  3. Drop a little shampoo or washing up liquid onto the tarp and wash it in, this will make some bubbles and also make the tarp slippy making it fun, quick and slidey for kids when the go down the water slide.

Once set up you are ready to go! Or should I say slide! This is great fun and will keep the kids entertained all day. The only issue is sometimes the adults take over they and they don’t get a look in!

Let’s go!

Now comes the fun part – sliding! You can use a hose to add additional water to the slide as needed. Just make sure there’s enough soap on the surface so you can slide easily. When you’re done sliding, simply roll up the tarp and store it away until next time.

With this easy DIY project, you’ll have your very own garden water slide that’s perfect for those hot summer days!

A DIY garden water slide is a great way to beat the heat without spending a lot of money. With just a few simple materials, you can create your own backyard oasis that the whole family will enjoy. So what are you waiting for? Grab a tarp and get sliding!
