How to Fix a Hole in an Air Mattress

So you’re all set up for your big camping trip, but when you go to blow up your air mattress, you notice a hole! Don’t worry, this is an easy fix. With a little bit of elbow grease, you’ll have your mattress good as new in no time.

How to Patch an Air Mattress

So you went to inflate your air mattress for guests only to find a hole staring back at you. Don’t worry, this is a common problem that can be easily fixed with some simple supplies. Use the following steps to patch up your air mattress so it’s as good as new.

What You’ll Need

  • Patch kit specific to your type of air mattress
  • Scissors
  • Ruler or measuring tape
  • Pencil or pen
  • Air compressor or pump

Instructions

First, you’ll need to find the hole. This can be tricky, as air mattresses are often made of thick material. Use your hands to feel around the mattress until you find the area that is deflated. Once you’ve found the hole, mark it with a pen or pencil so you know where to patch it.

  1. Begin by finding the materials you’ll need to patch the hole. If you don’t have a patch kit specific to your air mattress, any heavy-duty patches will do.
  2. Cut the patch so that it’s about two inches larger than the hole on all sides.
  3. Next, use the ruler or measuring tape to find the center of the hole, then mark it with the pencil or pen. Do the same for the center of the patch. This will help you line up the patch over the hole correctly.
  4. If your patch kit came with adhesive spray, go ahead and apply it to both the hole and the patch now. If not, you can skip this step.
  5. Line up the centers of the hole and the patch, then press the patch firmly into place around the entire circumference of the hole. Make sure there are no gaps between the edge of the patch and the edge of the hole.
  6. Now would be a good time to let the adhesive dry, if you’re using it. If not, you can skip this step.
  7. All that’s left to do now is inflate your mattress! Use an air compressor or pump to fill it up slowly until it’s at your desired firmness level. You’re all set for a comfortable night’s sleep in nature!

Next, get your patch kit and cut a piece of the adhesive material that is slightly larger than the hole. Peel off the backing and affix the patch over the hole. Use your fingers to smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles.

Now it’s time to inflate the mattress! Make sure the patched area is not directly over the valve, as this will make it more difficult to inflation. Once the mattress is fully inflated, test it out by lying on it to see if the patch is holding. If everything looks good, you’re all set! Now you can enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep on your newly patched air mattress.

That’s all there is to it! With just a few materials and some quick instructions, you can have your air mattress patched up and ready to go in no time flat. So get out there and enjoy nature!
